They Are Car Accessories Jim, But Not As We Know It

By: Shaun Parker

Many of the gizmos available for your car today might look more at home on the set of the latest Star Trek spinoff but most of them are actually quite affordable and practical. You cannot yet be beamed straight to your destination via some molecular reconstruction device and traffic jams are still going to be a problem, however you can avoid them with car accessories such as GPS sat-nav. This article examines the latest cutting-edge car accessories to hit the market.

Combination accessories are the rage currently and the Motorola MOTOROKR T505 Bluetooth In-Car Speaker and Digital FM Transmitter is not only possibly the longest product name since a small town in south Wales began manufacturing wool, it is a combination of hands free phone speaker and FM radio. You can listen to your favourite music or chat whilst driving safely however there are many flashing lights and beeps which can be confusing.

Another great combination product for your car that can provide destination guidance and security is the Binatone T430 GPS receiver. It combines a relatively basic GPS system with features such as photo and video playback, music and Bluetooth feature to link with your mobile phone. The camera can be placed above or below the license plate to provide a good view for reversing, eliminating any blind spots. It is a basic GPS but functions well however it is expensive at 179GBP as the camera is somewhat of a gimmick.

Lastly, for straight up meat and two veg Bluetooth technology we have the Bury CV 9040 handfree car kit cannot be beaten. It is quite a niche product, as it costs 140GBP so you really have to spend a lot of time on the phone in the car to make it worthwhile. It has great features such as the obvious Bluetooth connectivity to your mobile and a voice dialling feature which truly is hands free. From the user end it is clear however the person on the other end has trouble hearing sometimes.

The car accessories market is saturated with similar products and if you are gizmo mad and have to have the latest technology, useful or not, then these products might be for you. The fact is that many products offer very basic features at inflated prices such as hands free, which can be obtained from cheaper models for a fraction of the price. You have to decide how much you are willing to spend on an item that could potentially be classified as novelty.
